No one really wants to talk about it, but someone has to point out the obvious: Valentine’s Day includes sex for most of you in relationships. And even more than people don’t want to talk about sex, no one likes talking about the important topic of contraception. It’s important to research and discuss the different options with your partner to practice safe sex. Now you may be wondering where to find different contraceptives in and around campus, so here we have mapped out various locations just for you and that someone special to check out.
Student Services Building (SSB)
The SSB offers students three free condoms per day at the Health Promotion Resource Center (1.106). This includes your choice between lubricated and flavored nonlubricated if you so desire. The only drawback to the free condom system is you’ll need to go Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. because they are closed on weeknights and weekends. The UHS Pharmacy on the first floor of the SSB sells condoms and non-prescription contraceptive methods.
UHS Women’s Health Clinic
The UHS offers various birth control options. They give contraception advice, prescriptions, and insertion of IUD/IUC through appointments which can be scheduled through the Healthy Horns website.
Convenience stores in and around campus offer the typical selection of Trojan and Magnum brand condoms. These stores include the Co-Op Market, Jester City Market, West Campus Market, Orange Market and 7-11. Orange Market, located at 25th and San Gabriel streets, and the 7-11 on Guadalupe and 26th streets are open 24 hours.
CVS offers the widest selection of condoms and non-prescription contraceptive methods, although they may be a bit more expensive than other places. The CVS on The Drag is open from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Have a happy Valentine’s Day and be safe Longhorns!
