spring break road trip playlist of your dreams

If you’re anything like me, you can’t live without music. Whether it’s a 10 minute walk or a 6 hour drive, I always have something playing in my ears. Here are a few songs students from UT like to jam to while road tripping:

1. On the road again by Willie Nelson

This classic was suggested by Emily Hines, a freshman environmental science major, who would enjoy this song when she was little on road trips with her family. It was a family tradition to start off their trips with some Willie Nelson.

Favorite line from song: “Goin’ places that I’ve never been, seein’ things that I may never see again”

2. Grandma’s Feather Bed by John Denver

This folk/country song was recommended by Emma Scalfano, freshman HDO major, because it reminded her of road trips with her family where her dad would drive and play this song.

Favorite line from the song: “We didn’t get much sleep but we had a lot of fun, On Grandmas feather bed”

3. Love shack by the B-52’s

Taking it back to the late 80s, this song was suggested by Sarah Handley, a freshman corporate communication studies major, who knows all the lyrics which is pretty impressive.

Favorite line from the song: “Everybody’s moving, everybody’s grooving, baby, Funky little shack, funky little shack”

4. The Chain by Fleetwood Mac

This iconic song was recommended by Cate Walker, a freshman business major, who feels as though The Chain gives off endless energy and really pumps you up. Perfect for a road trip!

Favorite part of the song: “And if you don’t love me now, You will never love me again, I can still hear you sayin’, You would never break the chain”

5. Mr. Brightside by The Killers

A bop known all around the nation, Emily Mining, a freshman psychology major, likes this song for a road trip because “it’s a song that anyone can easily get excited to and sing together.”

Favorite line from the song: “Destiny is calling me, open up my eager eyes, ’Cause I’m Mr. Brightside”

The next couple of songs are a few that are my personal favorites and I couldn’t live without them.

6. Doses and Mimosas by Cherub

This song takes me back to the summer with my friends when we made the best memories, acting like fools and being carefree. I hope this inspires you to do the same this spring break!!

Most known line: “Doses and mimosas, Champagne and cocaine, Help to get me through”

7. Tongue Tied by Grouplove

Just like Doses and Mimosas, this song has so many good memories TIED to it. Grouplove definitely does a great job in creating such a fun and happy song. I recommend listening to this with your windows down!

My favorite line: “Take me to your best friend’s house, I loved you then and I love you now, oh yeah”

8. Weekend (feat. Miguel) by Mac Miller

😉

First off, R.I.P to the greatest. This song has such a good vibe and reminds whoever is listening that everything will be good by the weekend. Considering spring break is just a prolonged weekend, everything will be good  (p.s. this song should ALWAYS be on the party playlist)

Most known line: “But I’ll be good by the weekend, I’ll be good by the weekend, Everything good by the weekend, Everything’ll be good by the weekend”

9. Whoa (mind in awe) by XXTENTACION

To be honest, this song is kind of trippy and the subtle beat drop at 1:00 makes you feel some type of way. Definitely a song that can instantly put you in a good mood.

Favorite line from the song: “whooooOoooOOaaaAAaaaA”

10. Let’s Go by Khalid

Just like the title says, let’s go on a road trip and leave our problems at home. This song is like an instruction manual on how to live life for a little bit without any worries. The background music is pretty cool, too.

Favorite line from the song: “Leave your sorrow on the table, pick up your worries and throw them out the window, you don’t gotta let your friends know, There’s so much trouble to get into”

11. All We Got by Chance the Rapper (feat. Kanye West & Chicago Children’s Choir)

The trumpets used in the beginning of the song and throughout is one of the reasons why I love it so much. I also like how the choir is incorporated into the song. There’s so much going on that it just makes you want to get up and dance…but be careful and drive safe.

Favorite line from the song: “Man my daughter couldn’t have a better mother, If she ever find another, he better love her, Man I swear my life is perfect, I could merch it”

That’s all for the playlist but…

For all my girlies who love to sing at the top of their lungs about love, we have Speechless by Dan + Shay as the honorable mention.

For all my boys who like to get in their feels during a drive but still like to act hard, we have Limos (feat Teyana Taylor) by Vince Staples. Try singing that one at the top of your lungs.

Happy listening!!
